Bereavement Support in the Penarth Ministry Area
Losing someone you love is one of the hardest experiences we face. Grief can feel overwhelming, confusing, or isolating - and it can come in waves long after the funeral has passed. In the Penarth Ministry Area, we want you to know that you do not have to walk this journey alone. Our clergy and pastoral team are here to offer support, prayer, and a listening ear whenever you need it.
When Someone Dies
If you have recently lost a loved one, please accept our deepest sympathy. Whether you are planning a funeral, looking for pastoral support, or simply trying to make sense of what has happened, we are here to help.
Funerals can take place in any of our five churches or at a local crematorium or cemetery. Your chosen funeral director will usually make the initial arrangements, but our clergy will meet with you to shape a service that honours your loved one's life with dignity, compassion, and hope.
What a Church Funeral Offers
A Christian funeral is a moment to:
- Give thanks for the life of the person who has died
- Share memories and celebrate all they meant to you
- Pray for comfort, strength, and peace
- Commend your loved one into God's eternal care
Our clergy will guide you gently through each step, helping you choose readings, hymns, prayers, and tributes that reflect your loved one's story and your family's wishes.
After the Funeral
Grief doesn't end on the day of the funeral. Many people find the weeks and months afterwards even more difficult. We are here for you during this time too.
You are welcome to:
- Speak with a member of our clergy or pastoral team
- Ask for prayer for yourself or your family
- Attend a quiet weekday service or light a candle in one of our churches
- Join us for our annual Service of Remembrance, where we remember loved ones by name
You don't need to be a regular churchgoer - our support is open to everyone in our community.
Memorial Services
Some families choose to hold a memorial service weeks or months after the funeral, especially if the funeral itself was small or took place elsewhere. We are very happy to help you plan a service that feels right for your family, whether simple and reflective or more formal.
